Texas Exes CARES Project, Los Angeles

Written on January 4, 2012 by Chris S.

The Texas Exes have long been committed to volunteering in the communities that they live in and this year, the national chapter in Austin has organized the CARES project to help chapters further that commitment.  All participating Texas Exes chapters will be volunteering for the selected project in their area throughout the month of February.

The LA Texas Exes have chosen the Grow Native Nursery at the Westwood VA as their CARES project on Saturday February 18 from 10am-12:30pm.

Working in partnership with the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, Grow Native Nursery (GNN) works on the grounds (many acres of land) of the Westside Veterans Administration building.  Currently, the activities consist of what is essentially gardening, including mulching the ground, prepping the land for cultivation, landscaping activities, etc.  The goal is to develop sustainable land that can produce fruits and vegetables that ultimately go to feed US veterans.

Additionally, there is a plan to construct a greenhouse on the land with construction to be complete by late January or early February, meaning we may be helpful in either finishing constructing or starting to make the greenhouse functional.  For more information on the GNN, please check out their website.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email us at LALonghorns@yahoo.com.  Thank you!

Updated: LA Texas Exes Official Game Watch for the Holiday Bowl

Written on December 17, 2011 by Chris S.

With the Texas Longhorns back in SoCal, hopefully you have plans to attend and join the San Diego Texas Exes for all the pre-game, tailgate and post game events with thousands of other Longhorns fans.

But if you don’t have plans to attend the game, we hope you have plans to join us for our official LA Texas Exes game watching event at The Draft Sports Bar and Grill in Valley Village.

The Draft is offering happy hour pricing of 2 for 1 appetizers and 2 for 1 drinks from 5-7pm tonight to all Longhorns fans watching the game.   Of course we will also have raffle prizes and more information on the LA Texas Exes as well.

Normally throughout the football season we have three game watching locations.  However for tonight’s bowl game we will have just one official game watch.  Due to the holiday season and board members being out of town, we do not have the manpower to host multiple locations.

Mr Pockets in Manhattan Beach and Big Wangs downtown will still be showing the Holiday Bowl and if those are your normal locations for watching the game with other Horns fans, we encourage you to do so tonight.  Both have been great partners for the LA Texas Exes!

Wherever you watch the game tonight, we look forward to watching our Longhorns complete 2011 with a big win!  Hook Em!!

Longhorn Network Gamewatching Blitz–THIS SATURDAY!

Written on October 13, 2011 by Chris S.

Attention LA Longhorns!!  With the help of ESPN, and in view of the upcoming Longhorn game against Kansas televised only on LHN on 10/29, we are making a big push to get local providers to carry the Longhorn Network this Saturday, 10/15, at our game-watching locations!

At both The Draft Bar and Grill in Valley Village and Mr Pockets in Manhattan Beach, we will have a FREE buffet of appetizers available to Longhorns fans dressed in burnt orange and armed with their account information to their cable provider.

At halftime, we’re going to blitz the providers and let them know that we want them to carry the Longhorn Network.  We will also have prizes to give away to those who participate and of course, we’ll all be gathered to root on the Horns against Oklahoma State.

And if you can’t join us for the free food and prizes, please still participate by calling your provider at halftime of the game.  Let’s sack this problem so we can enjoy Longhorn programming in Los Angeles!
