6th Annual Texas Chili Showdown: Only One Week Left to Enter a Team or Purchase Tickets!

Come join us at Big Wangs Hollywood for our annual chili cook-off in True Texas Fashion. This year will be an indoor/outdoor event. We’ll have live music outside to entertain you while you enjoy some great chili! Our Celebrity Judges (TBA) will decided on a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place chili, along with a winner for Best Presentation. Our chili Tasters (all ticket purchasers) will vote for one team to walk away with the People’s Choice award. You can also purchase raffle tickets for our table Raffle.

The Chili Cookoff this year will be at:

Big Wangs – Hollywood

1562 N. Cahuenga Blvd

Hollywood, CA 90028
Team Registration is now open and will close on Friday, April 19 at 3pm Pacific Time. Team entry fees are $40. Everyone will be entered in the same category this year. We will be judging chili based upon Traditional Texas Chili guidelines, however, you are still welcome and encouraged to enter your nontraditional chilis. You never know – you could still win if you have an awesome chili! We are also adding a new prize for best presentation, so be sure to spice up your space as well as your chili.
Our prizes this year will be as follows:

1st Place – $175 +Trophy

2nd Place – $75 +Trophy

3rd Place – $50 + Trophy

People’s choice – Gift Card + Medal

Best Presentation – Gift Card + Medal

Chapter T-Shirts

Chapter T-shirts are in limited supply. We only have a few of our Texas Exes Los Angeles Chapter t-shirts left. Get yours before they are gone. They are $10 and you can pay additional for shipping or arrange for pickup at an event.
The shirts are Hanes Tagless 100% cotton. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund.

Water Bottle

These water bottles are stainless steel 24oz and have a snap closure lid. They are $15 a piece for sale through the national chapter. You can either pay additional to have them shipped or you can arrange for pickup at an event. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund. Chapter Emblem Contest

With the new chapter logo coming out, we are in search for a new chapter emblem to use in conjunction with the new logo to represent our chapter’s connection to Los Angeles on our website, merchandise, etc. We are looking for something that you think symbolizes Texas Longhorns in LA. For example, the NY chapter uses the statue of liberty doing a hook ‘em horns and the Phoenix chapter does a cactus with the hook’ em. What do you think the LA chapter’s should be? We will start accepting artwork submissions on February 1 at midnight until April 1 at 11:59pm.

Rules
1. All artwork should be submitted in JPG and ai ,eps or psd.
2. The artwork should be full color or any variation thereof.
3. Please do not use any official logos of the Texas Exes, The Los Angeles Chapter or of the Texas Longhorns.
4. Any artwork submitted becomes the property of the Texas Exes Los Angeles chapter and all rights to use the artwork are released to the Texas Exes Los Angeles Chapter.
5. The Winner will be announced on April 20 at the Annual Chili cookoff. You do not need to be present to win.
6. The winner will be decided by the Board of the Texas Exes Los Angeles Chapter.

Prize: The winning Chapter Emblem will be used on various Texas Exes Los Angeles Chapter promotional efforts. In addition, they will receive 2 free tickets to the Annual SaltLick BBQ.

The LA Chapter of the Texas Exes would like your feedback on how we are doing. We want to better serve your needs as Texas Alumni in LA.

Please take this survey to evaluate our current efforts and tell us what you would like to see us doing that we aren’t. It will take approximately 10 to 20 minutes depending upon how detailed you are in your answers.
